A Stained Glass Journey is a showcase for the various commissions designed by Jillian Sawyer, over the years, from her studio in Western Australia: Door panels, door surrounds, feature windows, portholes, arches, entrance ways and even restaurant windows. A variety of styles and concepts are shown in line drawings as well as numerous colour photographs of the finished pieces, both in room settings and as close-ups.

In this 64 page book there are 37 pages of full colour and over 80 designs including flora, birdlife (parrots, a peacock and a flamingo), witches, a laden grapevine and a harlequin. Jillian has a unique ability to bring life and colour to all her subjects, despite the constraints of designing for this difficult medium. Her attention to detail and perfectionism is acclaimed throughout the craft world.

There is no compromise with Jillian’s designs; she finely adjusts every line until her design flows so that you will never see a line in any of her works that simply allows escape from a difficult cut. Each cut must be an integral part of the design, which is why they are recognised as so exceptional. Those who quilt or appliqué appreciate the smooth transition of these patterns to their craft and use many of the patterns in this book, with each section of glass becoming a section of fabric. There is also a popular stained glass quilting technique where black bias tape takes the place of the lead and fabric is selected for its stained glass look.

Whatever the medium, A Stained Glass Journey is packed full of inspiration and exceptional patterns for your next project.
