Miles Franklin is the renowned author of My Brilliant Career, published in 1901. Her life took her to such diverse places as the USA, England and Serbia and when she returned to Sydney she became involved in the early Australian feminist movement.

Miles died in 1954 and in her will bequeathed her estate to establish an annual literary award known as The Miles Franklin Award.
