First published as A Political Love Story, Kate White's biography of Joseph Lyons is an engrossing study of one of Australia's most interesting and controversial prime ministers.

Joseph Lyons was prime minister from 1932-1939 during the crucial years of Australia's climb out of the Great Depression. In his day, he was known for two momentous decisions in his life - he changed from the Labor Party to the United Australia Party in the middle of his political career, and at 35, he fell in love with a 17-year-old girl, Enid Burnell, whom he married.

In 1943, she became one of the first of two women elected to federal parliament. Their love affair and marriage is the most documented personal relationship of any of our prime ministers.

Now back in print as part of the Prime Ministers Series, White's biography brings these two fascinating figures back to life, and gives a palpable sense of Australian life during the harsh years preceding World War Two.
