Vina, a vivacious tourist from New South Wales, and her two girlfriends from Europe have been travelling the country and their final destination before heading home is the gorgeous coastal town of Kalbarri in the midwest of Western Australia.
Reed, a local loner, has too much time on his hands and a heart waiting to be broken. When he meets Vina he is instantly smitten with her and the two become inseparable. Their days are filled with wandering the coastline and cooking fish on the barbeque. They live each moment like it could be their last. Reed believes that Vina is in love with him and encourages her to stay. Though she promises she will, she doesn’t keep her word and just before leaving for home she suddenly goes cold on him.
While Vina drives to Perth in a bid to leave everything behind her, Reed tries to come to terms with Vina’s surreptitious past. When he discovers that Vina has left without saying goodbye he is shattered and demands an explanation, but Vina slams the phone down on him and he later learns about her death on the news. Reed is in disbelief and cannot come to terms with the events that have taken place. He tries to move on and get over Vina, but the more he tries the more she haunts him.
This is a lyrical story dealing with love and death set in the beautiful midwest.
