BattleAxe is a superbly written heroic fantasy novel of the Eddings/Donaldson school - and number one in The Axis Trilogy.
Terror grips the country of Achar when it is beset by terrifying wraith-like creatures from its northern wastes. Is it Achar's traditional foe, the Forbidden, returned to wreak vengeance, or has the prophecy of the Destroyer finally come to pass with a more destructive enemy altogether?
Fierce storms and climactic havoc confirm the worst fears of the Acharites. A terrible being with supernatural powers seems intent on laying waste not only Achar but all of the people of Tencendor.
And only one person can overcome the Destroyer - the 'Son of Love and Song' who, according to the Prophecy, must unite all of Tencendor. But who is this Son of Love and Song? Is he amongst them?
Time is running out…
BattleAxe is Sara Douglass' brilliant debut fantasy novel and the first in what has become a highly successful trilogy.

1348...and the black pestilence decimates Europe. Corpses pile high in streets, crops rot in the fields, infants are left to suckle at the decomposing breasts of their dead mothers.
But this creeping death is only a harbinger of the horror to come: as the Church is torn asunder demons escape from Hell to scurry across the face of the earth.
1377...and the Archangel Michael sends Brother Thomas Neville on a mission across Europe to find the means to thrust the demons back beyond the doorway of Hell. But it has been thirty years, and the minions of Satan have had more than enough time to prepare.
As Thomas Neville encounters angels and demons, saints and witches, he comes to realise that the armies of God and Satan are arraying themselves for the final battle...and that his soul is to be the battleground.
We now live in the aftermath of that battle, but are we sure who won?

The Demon-King wears the crown of England.
And only a man strong enough to resist love can defeat him. Casting aside his vows to the Church, and protected by the powerful Duke of Lancaster and his son Hal Bolingbroke, Thomas Neville is now free to pursue his quest for Wynkyn de Worde's casket.
But Richard II is subtle and cunning, and moves swiftly against Neville and Bolingbroke, destroying both their families and using his minions to drive the realm towards bloody rebellion.
Only Neville's wife Margaret can help, but Neville knows he cannot fully trust her. And what of Bolingbroke who, as the months go by, reveals ambitions far greater and deadlier than Neville ever realised? As does Joan of Arc in France, Neville learns that those he trusts the most are also those who hide the most devastating of secrets.
As Neville inches closer and closer to the casket, he discovers that opening it might well release a greater horror across earth than the one he wishes to thrust back into hell.
Some mysteries were never meant to be revealed, and the darkest of them all is the ancient secret of the angels.

The battle for mankind's soul draws to its terrible conclusion - and it is far worse than anything Thomas Neville had thought possible.
The angels have been scheming for aeons, and they intend to allow neither Thomas Neville nor Hal Bolingbroke to spoil their triumph. Where Neville thought to have choice, he finds only despair; where he thought to find love, he finds only the angels' entrapments.
England is reeling under supernatural plagues and treachery-driven rebellions. Bolingbroke must raise his sword against friend and foe alike to save his throne and unite his kingdom behind him. Mary, Bolingbroke's wife, watches and waits, knowing her husband wants her dead, yet also intuitively understanding that her role in the unfolding drama may well be the strangest of all.
Mankind's fate rests on the outcome of three battles: Agincourt, where Bolingbroke challenges Philip for Catherine and for France; the sacrificial ground before Joan's pyre, where Neville must choose between his love for Margaret and the will of the angels; and the Field of the Angels itself - Heaven, where Christ watches...and waits...
This final book of The Crucible trilogy demonstrates Sara Douglass' rich imagination and confirms her place as one of the world's great storytellers.

It is the seventeenth century, and once more the players of the Troy Game are drawn into its intricate dance.
Restoration London becomes the field of the most desperate battle yet. The Troy Game is determined that in this life nothing should go wrong, and so it plots and manipulates. But it cannot outmanoeuvre Asterion, who has constructed in a back alleyway a nightmarish lair which rises from the rear wall of the bone house of St Dunstan's-in-the-East. It is here that he manages the ultimate trickery in order to obtain the kingship bands, the Game and Cornelia-reborn, Noah Banks; nothing, in this life, shall stop him.
Except Ariadne. The ancient Darkwitch has risen from the dead, and she brings with her a terrible secret that will not merely tear both the Game and land apart, but devastate any chance for Noah and her lover, Brutus, to be together.
In a city devastated by both plague and fire, an even greater disaster is enacted as the most powerful Darkwitch in history rises to destroy the hopes of all who would defeat the minotaur. In the glittering glory of the restoration court of Charles II, nothing and no-one is as they seem.

The final book of The Troy Game is set during World War II, specifically during the Blitz in London.
Jack Skelton (once Brutus, once William, once Louis) has arrived back in London after a three hundred year absence. He has come home to end it once and for all - to complete the Troy Game and to win Noah away from Weyland.
Of course, nothing ever goes to plan for Brutus-reborn, does it?
Jack arrives home on the eve of war. He takes up residence in the mysterious Copt Hall (or Copped Hall) in Epping Forest - slightly put out by the presence within the hall of an even more mysterious, and thoroughly irritating, valet called Malcolm. He is even more perplexed by the reclusive Grace - Noah and Weyland's daughter - in whom Malcolm seems peculiarly interested.
But most of all Jack is disturbed by the sense of something 'wrong' with London. Something 'different'. Something shadowy and labyrinthine hanging over the ciy that has nothing at all to do with the Troy Game itself.
And Grace is the only other person who can perceive it.

This is the legend of King Arthur...or is it?
From the manuscripts of a twelfth-century English cleric to a New York bestseller, tales of King Arthur and his court permeate our world. But where did the stories start and how much is true? The Betrayal of Arthur is an enchanting exploration of Arthurian legend, twentieth-century sensibilities and the medieval mind.
