Three People & A Dog
The
Australian Online Bookshop is a family business that we started in
1995. At the time we started we were the first online bookshop in
Australia. We still run the business from our home in Bassendean but
the house started to overflow after a few years so most of the books
are now stored in a warehouse.
Here is a bit of information about those involved in the Australian Online Bookshop:
 | Bob Hoffman: I came to Australia from the US in 1969 and have lived in various parts of Australia. I am a librarian who has worked in several university libraries over the years and still do some library work. My hobbies are reading and computing. I read anything I can get my hands on - and I can get my hands on an awful lot of books! Some favourite authors: P.G. Wodehouse, Orson Scott Card, Harry Turtledove, William Shakespeare, Arthur Conan Doyle and Lois McMaster Bujold. My role in the bookshop includes answering queries from customers, selecting books for the bookshop, tracking down obscure books, most of the typing of the entries, half of the computing work that needs to be done, and anything that nobody else wants to do!  | Sandy Hoffman: I am a fifth generation Western Australian - a teacher who specialises in individual work with people who have learning disabilities. My hobbies are reading, collecting children's books, solving cryptic crosswords and playing bridge. Some favourite authors: Christina Stead, Catherine Cookson, Georgette Heyer, Ruth Park, Vivian Stuart, Cynthia Harrod-Eagles, Maeve Binchy, Rosamund Pilcher. My role in the bookshop includes looking after credit card transactions, doing the banking, posting books, and keeping the shelves in some sort of order! |
 | Rill Hoffman: Hi. I've just finished Uni and I'm now working in the Bookshop full-time. So that basically means I do every job that's going! I'll answer your queries, find your books, and get them out to you. I don't seem to have a lot of free time at the moment. When I do, I like playing tennis or boxing or just whatever. Although, as a requisite for my family, I also spend way too much time reading.  | Nelly: I am the bookshop dog. My hobbies are gardening (two-legs call it digging up the lawn), eating the two-legs' food, walking, and finding exquisite scents. My favourite author is Duncan Ball. I sound the alarm whenever any two-legs try to deliver books, guard Sandy when she takes books to the post office, and look erudite and cultured to make up for the scruffy appearance of the other creatures involved in this bookshop. I can't understand the two-leg fascination with electronic mail - now when they bring out olfactory mail... |
